Following the devastating floods that ravaged the KwaZulu-Natal coastline recently, the Domino Foundation, the primary benefactor of the aQuellé Tour Durban, has continued to support communities that have been affected by the natural disaster.

The team at the Domino Foundation mobilized in the midst of the rains, to provide food, water and blanket support to communities who had assembled in places of shelter overnight.

In the first four weeks following the floods the team, in collaboration with KZN Disaster Response Team and various corporate and foundation partnerships, have provided over 6,100 food and hygiene parcels, over 180 tonnes of food aid and close to 40 500 litres of fresh drinking water which became crucial following the destruction of water infrastructure.

Given how many people lost everything in the floods and how many homes were destroyed, the Domino Foundation network also distributed over 2600 blankets, 2326 mattresses and 212 bags of clothes to the needy.

“We are overwhelmed by the support from individuals, businesses, churches, schools and foundations that have united to help us to help others in the KZN Floods!” Shaun Tait, CEO of the Domino Foundation said.

For the aQuellé Tour Durban as an event, seeing the work that the Domino Foundation does regularly gives them more impetus to drive people to enter.

“To see how funds that are gathered from the event and other benefactors are used in helping the vulnerable communities gave us a lot of inspiration,” aQuellé Tour Durban Race Director Alec Lenferna said.

“All of the proceeds from the race go directly to the Domino Foundation so that they can continue these sorts of initiatives.

“With entries opening on 1 June, the reaction to the floods in KwaZulu-Natal is a perfect example of why we need to support initiatives like the Domino Foundation and your entry money will be going to a brilliant cause.”
