The organisers, sponsors and other key role players got together recently for a pretty exhaustive washout meeting, and we believe we have identified the various elements of the event that need to be improved. From our own observations, as well as taking the different comments and submissions made by many of the people that took part, we have come up with some plans for improvement, and we are also investigating other options to ensure we can put a premium event together in 2025.
There were many elements of this year’s event that went off well, particularly linked to the road event on the Sunday. While we don’t want to diminish these aspects, we can't pat ourselves on the back when things go well, as it’s our job to ensure that things go well, but we do rather need to be honest about what mistakes were made and to look at how to rectify these.
We have acknowledged that there were a number of issues linked to MTB / Gravel / Trail activity day on Saturday 20th April, and plans are already being put in place to rectify matters going forward. The parking arrangements, the start / finish area and the attendant layouts, the route-marking arrangements, the marshals plans and the medical elements are all being vigorously interrogated, so that we can ensure that the 2025 edition of the event is a far better experience than it was for some people this year.
Our objective must be to continually rectify any mistakes made and to improve on all aspects of the event – even those things that have gone well – to ensure the best possible experience can be offered to those that would like to be part of the event.
We pledge to ensure a better event in 2025, and we hope that the great support that the event enjoys will continue. We are in the process of engaging with the city authorities to confirm the date for the event next year, and once done, we will make an announcement accordingly.
I wish you all well
