I hope all you aQuellé Tour Durban riders have made good use of the various sales this month, especially the special offers from event sponsor's Cycle Lab who have doubled down on their sales. They have a Black Friday Sale running today and are also running some great specials on their Festive Sale, which ends on December 31 – so we expect you to be heading into the weekend with at least a new bike, helmet, shoes, top and bib shorts and Garmin.
And in the aQuellé Tour Durban offices we are also excited to be offering some Black Friday deals, but because we are a little superstitious and we did not want to upset Friday the 13th, our Black Friday discounts run until "lucky" Friday, December 13.
With that in mind we hope you will be heading over to MyActive and grabbing a discounted entry to ride your new bike in the aQuellé Tour Durban and / or aQuellé Tour Durban MTB powered by Cycle Lab on April 26 and 27.
KZN CLUB CHAMPS
But that is not the only good news for aQuellé Tour Durban road race entrants this month. Following on from a KZN Cycling Union meeting last week, we can now confirm that the 2025 race will officially be the inaugural KZN Cycling Club Championships – and even better news is that not only the racing snakes will contribute to deciding which is KZN's best cycling club.
The 42km, 68km and 110km race results will all count toward determining the 2025 KZN Cycling Club Champions, with all entrants able to contribute. Anybody (male or female) who enters and is a registered member of a club with a valid 2025 Cycling SA membership (a racing licence is not required) is eligible to contribute.
But, as those irritating ads promise, that is not all. Both the road race and the mountain bike events will also be part of the KZN Cycling Participation Trophy, and literally every entrant can score points for their club. The basis for this trophy will be participant numbers relative to the size of the club. It could not be more fair. A small club can beat a big club by having a higher percentage of entrants. E-bike entrants will count for this competition.
As an added incentive for the Participation Trophy, any rider who enters for both the MTB and road race will count as three entries (by doing both events you earn your club a bonus entry).
