It is great to have you involved in this year’s aQuellé Tour Durban in association with Cycle Lab.
Please note the following general information that I hope will assist you in your planning on Sunday 19th April 2026 and the days leading up to the event.
Registration
All entrants should collect their goodie bags and race numbers at the official registration area at Cycle Lab at Cornubia Mall. The registration area will operate as follows:
• Friday 17th April: 09h00 – 17h00
• Saturday 18th April: 09h00 – 15h00
There will be no race number collection on the day of event unfortunately, but it should be noted that people may collect race numbers for others.
CSA National Inter-Club Challenge
All clubs and / or teams that wish to be part of the CSA National Inter – Club Challenge have to confirm the 5 x riders in their teams by midday on Friday 17th April 2026. Only those teams that confirm their riders by email to director@tourdurban.co.za will be eligible for the prizes linked to this competition.
Teams need to have a minimum of four and a maximum of five riders in the designated team, and the results will be calculated by adding the times of the top three riders in each team. The club teams can be all male, all female or mixed and can have riders of all ages from Juniors upwards – the choice is the club’s and there will be no differentiated male & female club team competition
Timing Boards
Timing for the Invitation Race / Inter – Club Challenge is being carried out by Finish Time and the timing costs are covered by the entry fees, but each rider has to have their own Finish Time board which can be purchased at registration.
CSA Licenses
All riders in the event have to have a CSA License. This can be one of the annual memberships, or riders may have a day license.
Where to park on the day
The best parking area is at the Sun Coast Casino complex and entrants can then take a short ride to the start area which will be at the intersection of Masabalala Yengwa (old NMR Avenue) and Battery Beach Road. This is opposite the Moses Mabhida Stadium. The parking area is accessible from Snell Parade, and the start chutes will be accessible only from the Snell Parade side of Battery Beach Road to avoid congestion at the start line.
Event Makeup and Start Times
• The aQuellé Invitation Race is the main race of the day and starts at 10h30
• Riders will start getting called into the start chute from 10h10
• The race is over a 100km total distance
• The distance will be made up 2 x 26km loops, and 4 x 12km loops and the link to the interactive route map is https://www.plotaroute.com/route/3156312?units=km
• The riders in the race can / will compete for the individual race honours, and the results of those riders designated in the different club teams, will also count towards the club competition
• Riders will pass through the start / finish area five times before the finish of the last lap
• A bell will indicate the last lap of the race
• The format dictates that there will be two presentations at the conclusion of the race – one for the overall individual winners (male & female) and the second for the National Inter-Club Challenge winners
Team / Follow Vehicles & Technical Support
• Teams may have a support vehicle in the race convoy, but only those teams with four or more riders and with an official team manager’s license
• All teams have to be self sufficient and provide their own radios etc
• Riders will not be able to be fed from the vehicles – the vehicles are in the race to support riders with mechanical issues only
• Any rider with a mechanical issue must pull to the side of the road and wait for the team vehicle to get to their point
• There will be a designated feed / technical area on the route that teams and riders may have support members at to provide bottles and race sustenance. This will only be allowed in this area.
Neutral Service / Mechanical Support
There will once again be mechanical support for all riders provided by Farhad Sheikh and his team from Peerless Cycle World. Should you receive assistance and any spares from the team on the road, you will be invoiced by Peerless after the event. Riders and teams may provide wheels and other spares to the vehicles if desired.
Finish Village
The event finish village will be on the beach promenade alongside the Kings Park pool, and this is where the post event drinks and medals will be distributed, and where clubs and schools can erect gazebos if desired. Food and drinks vendors will also be in the area.
Prizegiving
Every effort will be made to ensure that the post event prizegiving takes place as soon as possible after the completion of the main races and will be dependent on the availability of the final and signed off results.
Prizegiving for the competitions are scheduled at 13h15 / 13h30 and is dependent on the race finish time.
Prizemoney
Prizemoney will be paid out at the end of April 2026 to allow for any disputes around results to be submitted and managed. |
